CAP Calculator

The Government of Canada limits the proportion of temporary foreign workers an employer can hire in low-wage positions. Use this tool to check if your LMIA application meets the cap requirements.

Step 1: Check for Exemptions

Some positions are exempt from the low-wage cap. If any of the following apply, you don't need to calculate the cap.

Step 2: What Is Your Established Cap?

Most employers are subject to a 10% cap. Employers in specific sectors qualify for a 20% cap.

Step 3: Enter Your Workforce Numbers

Enter the numbers below based on the four consecutive weeks immediately before your LMIA application signature date. Count all employees at the specific work location (not nationally).

All employees working 30+ hours/week, including Canadians, permanent residents, current TFWs, and workers on open work permits.
All employees working less than 30 hours/week at the work location.
TFWs currently in low-wage positions, excluding TFWs in positions applied for in this LMIA application.
Low-wage positions in this LMIA application, including work permit extensions for TFWs already at the work location.
New TFWs in this application, plus low-wage TFWs hired (previously approved LMIA) but who have not started work yet.
Total TFWs employed at this work location at the time of application.
TFWs among [F] who have confirmation from a federal or provincial immigration program (e.g. PNP, CSQ, Agri-Food Pilot).
Is your total workforce fewer than 10 across all Canadian work sites?
